Early Detection for Firefighters & First Responders

A firefighter-operated administrative screening platform that coordinates mobile ultrasound, EKG, labs, skin exams, and primary care-style evaluations directly at your department. Clinical services are provided through a physician-owned professional entity, with the goal of catching common firefighter illnesses early and keeping companies in service.

  • Built around years of service and age for career & combination departments

  • Reduces long-term illness, injury pay and overtime backfill

  • Supports NFPA 1582 and national cancer & cardiac prevention efforts

Designed for municipalities, chiefs, union leaders and individual firefighters who want a clear, repeatable plan for medical screening.

Enhancing Lives with Preventative Care

Comprehensive on-site screening medical evaluations, ultrasound, EKG, labs, skin exams, pulmonary function. testing all organized into 4 risk-based tiers.

Cleaner staffing & budget planning – preventing even 2–3 long-term illnesses per year typically pays for the program several times over.

Actionable follow-up – results go back to members with clear next steps and coordination with a primary care provider.

About FD Screening

Firefighter-Operated. Clinically Driven. Built to Save Lives.

FD Screening was created by firefighters and nurses in collaboration with Dr. Michael Hamrock, a leading voice in firefighter health. Together, the team developed a firefighter-specific mobile diagnostic screening program that supports earlier detection of concerning findings through structured screening and follow-up pathways long before they take firefighters off the line or contribute to early retirement.

We are firefighters. We are providers. We are you.

From Guidelines to a Mobile Screening Program

FD Screening was developed in close collaboration with Dr. Hamrock and national partners as a fully mobile screening program tailored to the fire service. Testing is organized into risk-based tiers based on years of service and age, with ultrasound, EKG, lab work, skin exams, and primary care-style evaluations brought directly to your department.

By removing barriers to access and delivering comprehensive screening on-site, the program improves participation, supports earlier detection, and helps departments reduce the long-term costs associated with illness, injury pay, and overtime backfill.

Medical Direction by Dr. Michael Hamrock

Dr. Michael Hamrock is a primary care physician and leading advocate for firefighter health. His firefighter-focused screening approach recognizes that occupational exposure to smoke, carcinogens, heat stress, sleep disruption, and extreme physical demands can place firefighters at elevated risk for cancer, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and metabolic illness.

Dr. Hamrock’s broader firefighter health protocols support a more structured and proactive approach than a standard physical. These protocols may include expanded cardiac risk screening, skin exams, occupational exposure review, lab evaluation, and earlier consideration of cancer screening for cancers commonly associated with the fire service, including brain, lung, kidney, bladder, prostate, colon, and blood cancers.

When clinically indicated, members may be referred for additional evaluation such as advanced cardiac testing, stress imaging, specialist consultation, or follow-up cancer screening through their primary care provider or an appropriate specialist.

The goal is simple: identify risk factors and concerning findings earlier, support timely follow-up, and help firefighters stay healthy, working, and present for their families and communities.

Created by Firefighters, for Firefighters

FD Screening was built from what we saw on the job: too many firefighters being diagnosed late with aggressive cancers, heart disease, and uncontrolled hypertension. Standard annual physicals were not designed around the exposures, schedules, and risks of the fire service, and busy work demands made it difficult for members to complete multiple appointments. Our team of firefighters and providers set out to build a clear, annual screening program that fits the fire service schedule and culture while helping protect members, families, and municipalities.

Detect disease early. Protect firefighters. Support municipalities. Keep companies in service.

Why Firefighter Specific Screening Matters

Firefighters and first responders face increased occupational risk for cancer, sudden cardiac events, hypertension, and metabolic disease. Many members only see a provider when something is already wrong. FD Screening is designed to find problems early,  when they’re most treatable and least disruptive to staffing.
